Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Student Writer: Shontai Cross

This third grader tells us about American Heroes in her acrostic poem.

This week’s featured writer: Shontai Cross

School: St. Joseph School

Age: 8

Grade: 3

Teacher: Miss Ulatowski

What have you learned in school that makes you a better writer? A lot! But when I have days off from school I sometimes feel like writing, so I practice my handwriting and that’s what makes me better.

What is your favorite book? I’ve read Amelia Earhart books, and I did them on a biography report, so that book.

What do you like to do outside of school? I love having sleepovers and playing with my friends outside.

Shontai’s writing:

What are American Heroes?

American heroes are…

American helpers are…

Marines (P.S. - my dad used to be one)

Energetic, they always have energy for us

Responsible for serving their country

Iraq, people help out

Concentrating on helping others

Ability to help others

Nine-one-one helps everyone

Has courage for others

Especially important

Risking your life for people

Ongoing. There’s always somebody to call

Encouraging for us

Saver for people

About this column: Each week we feature one of Meriden's talented young writers and their work.
