Video Extra: Tomie DePaola Musical Tribute

Meriden's ukulele troubadour serenades the children's book artist and author at Saturday night's reception.

Bruce Burchsted, Meriden's ukulele troubadour, sang his own Tomie DePaola tribute song to the children's book author and artist and an audience of more than 100 Saturday night at the Meriden Public Library.

The library surpised Meriden-born DePaola Saturday by renaming its children's wing after him. (Our full story is .)

He grew up in Meriden, it’s told in a story, 26 Fairmont Avenue, but he left town to seek his fortune and glory, to do what he had to do.

Now Tomie as a kid loved doing theatre and his tap dance was all the rage, and since he was tapped to be an artist and author, now his books are on the stage.
