MidState Medical Center’s Family Birthing Center wins Excellence in Workplace Award

MidState Medical Center is pleased to announce that its Family Birthing Center has been selected by the Connecticut Nurses' Association (CNA) as a recipient of the 2012 CNA Excellence in the Workplace Award. The CNA recognizes the contributions the Family Birthing Center has made to integrate evidence-based practice, lifelong learning and patient-centered quality outcomes. In a written nomination, the FBC was highlighted for its commitment and hard work in striving for Baby Friendly designation; for improvement on several quality indicators related to breastfeeding rates and skin-to-skin contact; success on an initiative to reduce elective labor prior to 39 weeks; the implementation of nurse-driven approaches to enhance the environment of care for patients and staff; and a Discharge Phone Call program, to name a few. Nurse managers Pamela Van Hennik, RN and Rose Marie Vitale, RN were presented with the award on October 18th at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell.
