Free income tax preparation services set to begin January 29th; Health Insurance applications also being taken at tax sites

New Opportunities is hosting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site for the 8th consecutive year at its Meriden location. 

The VITA program, which is sponsored by the IRS, provides free tax preparation and e-filing of State and Federal 1040EZ and 1040-A forms for individuals and families with household incomes of $52,000 or less. Clients can also have their refunds electronically deposited into their bank accounts at no additional charge.

VITA clients also receive assistance with special tax credits including the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or Disabled. VITA services are not available for homeowners or business owners with more complex returns.

In addition to free tax preparation services, New Opportunities will also have Access Health Certified In-Person Assisters on hand to provide information, answer questions and also assist consumers with applying for insurance through the Access Health Marketplace

New Opportunities VITA services will be available beginning the week of Wednesday, January 29th and continue through Monday April 7th to meet this year's April 15th tax filing deadline. Services are available by appointment only.

New Opportunities Meriden VITA site is located at 74 Cambridge Street and will be open on Tuesdays from 4:30pm to 6:30pm,and on Saturdays from 9am to 12pm. For more information or to schedule an appointment at the Meriden site, call (203) 639-5060.
