On Flag Day, join Mayor Mike Rohde, color guards from several veterans' groups and other local officials to witness a watch fire in which retired American flags are officially disposed of by burning. Medals of honor will be awarded to qualifying local veterans. Music and refreshments will also be part of what promises to be a moving ceremony.
If your flag is faded, worn, ripped or tattered, please replace it and retire it properly by bringing it to the Meriden Public Library or a local veteran's organization. These organizations collect the flags and dispose of them with respect at the watch fire.
