Meriden Police Bringing Trucks, Cars and Fun to Local Children

A special "Touch A Truck" event on Wednesday will give students the opportunity to learn more about how trucks, cars and how the community uses them to make Meriden a better place.

As a member of the Meriden Police Department, Lt. Sal Nesci said the job isn’t always about simply fighting crime.

The newest member of the department’s Public Information Office and former commander of the Neighborhood Initiatives Unit said interacting with residents and bringing information to Meriden children is equally important. On Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the department is looking to do just that.

The department will host a special “Touch A Truck” at the corner of Church Street and Colony Street with police and fire vehicles, trucks from the Parks and Recreation Department and more.

“This is a nice community event and it’s a good way to reach out to the children in a non-emergency or working setting,” Nesci said. “We want residents to be able to bring their children down, have some fun and enjoy.”

The event is open to the public and available to all area residents. There is no charge to attend. For more information, contact the department at (203) 238-1911.
