Meriden Woman Wins Big with Lottery Ticket Bought at Hamden Store

Don't tell Wilsa Maisonave of Meriden that Friday the 13th brings bad luck.

Last Friday, Sept. 13, Maisonave went to a Hamden convenience store to buy lunch when she found a penny heads up—a traditional sign of good luck.

After picking up the penny, she decided to buy a “Quick Pick” ticket for the “Cash5” nightly drawing.  The next day, when she scanned her ticket in a lottery ticket checker, she was rewarded with an unexpected surprise—she matched all five of the winning Cash5 numbers for the $100,000 top prize win.

“I was completely dumbfounded,” Maisonave told Lottery officials.  “I couldn’t believe it was real.  So, I scanned the ticket again in the ticket checker and then asked the retailer for a print out…it was a $100,000 winner.”

The Cash5 numbers drawn on September 13, 2013 were 9 - 21 - 25 - 30 - 34. A total of 3,822 winning tickets were sold statewide for that drawing.  Prize values ranged from $2 to $100,000 each.

Maisonave arrived at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill Monday morning, happy to collect a prize check for $68,300 (prize value after taxes).  “I’m going to pay bills first, but then I want to take the kids on a vacation to Disney World.”

For selling Maisonave her $100,000 prize winning ticket, Krauser’s, located at 1959 State Street in Hamden, will receive a $1,000 selling bonus from the CT Lottery.

The overall chances of winning a prize in Cash5 are 1 in 72.1.  The chance of winning the top prize is 1 in 324,632.
