St. Patrick's Day Parade, Chowder Cook-Off, The Whiskey Boys and More

Where/When: Saturday at 2 p.m. at the corner of Parker Ave. and East Main Street, Meriden

Why Go: Pack up the kids early and trek downtown to get a good spot for this emerald spectacle that’s fun for all ages!

Where/When: Saturday at noon at the AquaTurf Club, 556 Mulberry St., Plantsville

Why Go: The American Association of University Women are featuring Meriden native Tomie dePaola, a nationally known author and illustrator of children’s books, as one of its guest speakers at its annual author’s luncheon.

Where/When: 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. showings today through Sunday at the Ivoryton Playhouse, 102 Main St., Ivoryton

Why Go: Ever wonder how the Irish got that way? Well, this play is for you – especially this week!

Pricing: Adults $40; seniors $35; students $20; children 12 and under $15. Tickets may be purchased online at ivorytonplayhouse.org or at the box office.

Where/When: Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (rain date Sunday) at La Vita Gustosa, 9 Main St., East Haddam

Why Go: One word: Yummy! Come eat lunch and slurp down an array of chowders made fresh by chefs from area restaurants. Tasters receive a commemorative chowder mug.

Pricing: $10 ($5 for children 12 and under)

Where/When: Saturday at 2 p.m. at the East Hampton Public Library, 105 Main St., East Hampton

Why Go: Come check out The Whiskey Boys’ blend of traditional, bluegrass and old Irish tunes.
