Berlin High School Advance Placement Art Show

Berlin High School is very excited to be able to offer its students the course offering of AP Studio Art this year.  As such, students can focus their work in three different strands, Drawing/Painting, 2-D Design, and 3-D Design.   As March is Youth Art Month, There will be an exclusive Berlin High School AP Studio Art show at the Sandman Gallery & Frame Shoppe located on 14 West Main Street, Meriden. The opening will be on Friday, March 9th from 6:30-8:30 and will run to Saturday, March 24th for viewing. The gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday from 10am - 6pm and Saturdays, 10am – 3pm.  Please come out to support your homegrown artists.

Victoria Fagan – As a senior at BHS, Victoria will be attending Long Island University to major in Studio Art and play Division I Golf.  Her medium of preference is pencil and her long-term goals, is to continue her studies in Architecture.  Victoria is focusing on the Drawing/Painting strand of the AP Studio Art Program.

Kelly Kasulis – Kelly is a BHS senior aspiring to attend a four-year liberal arts college to study media, art, humanities, or communications. Charcoal is her preferred medium as she explores the Drawing/Painting AP strand.  Coming from an artistic family, Kelly was encouraged to draw from a young age.  Her favorite artists include Shepard Fairey and Salvadore Dali.’

 

Maggie Frederick – Maggie has been accepted to the University of Vermont, UCONN and the University of New Hampshire for the fall and has yet to decide on a major.  As her parents have always nurtured and supported Maggie in the Arts, this interest has rooted in her and continues to grow.  Maggie is focusing on the Drawing/Painting strand of AP Studio Art and prefers to work with black charcoal on white paper.

 

Brie Nickerson – As a junior enrolled in the AP Studio Art Course, focusing on Drawing/Painting, Brie will have the opportunity to take the AP Studio Art Course as a senior following the 2-D Design or 3-D strand.  She is invested in her artwork and is considering pursuing the Arts as a career path option.  From a young age, Brie has developed an inclination for drawing, which she has maintained throughout the years.  The mediums that she excels in are graphite and charcoal, with a preferred subject matter of portraits and still lives, paying special attention to her mark making skills and techniques.

 

Ramsha Khan – As a junior at BHS, Ramsha is focusing on the 2-d Design strand of the AP Studio Art course with the intent to focus on the 3-D Design strand of the AP Studio Art course as a senior.  Ramsha is planning to attend Paier College of Art for Interior Design, focusing on Interior Design.  She experiments with many different mediums including thumbtacks!  Ramsha has developed her interest from a young age when others began to notice her drawing talents.  She prefers abstract work that creates illusions and encourages the viewer to formulate their own interpretations of the work.  Her favorite artist is Andy Warhol, who inspires Ramsha’s use of color and composition in her own work.

 

Anna Switzer – Anna is a senior at BHS who sadly had a difficult time making room for the Arts into her school day until now.  This year Anna decided that AP Studio Art was where she had to be!  “I have found nothing but delight working with my peers and most of all my teacher to become a better artist.  I value the beauty of art.  Beauty motivates people; therefore Art can motivate and create more than just a pretty picture.  There is POWER in Art.”  Anna is looking forward to attending a small Art School in CA. 

 

Gabe Keller – Gabe is a junior at BHS who is focusing on the 2-D Design strand of the AP Studio Art Course.  He especially likes to work in Photoshop and is planning to major in Graphic Design.  He is currently researching schools close to home.
