Channel 8 Pulled from Meriden TV Lineup?

A dispute between Cox Communications and WTNH-TV is at a stand-off.

For the thousands of viewers who watched the Academy Awards Sunday night, finding Channel 8 on their cable lineup was easy. But that could change beginning Wednesday if a dispute between the ABC affiliate at Cox Communications isn't resolved.

Both companies have posted information about the stand-off which stems from a contract disagreement over programming costs.

WTNH has posted their position on their website about the situation which it calls a "retransmission dispute."

Cox Communications states on its website that the owner of WTNH, LIN TV Corporation, "is demanding a huge increase in programming costs."

Cox provides cable services to Meriden, Cheshire, Southington, Hamden, and other central Connecticut towns.

I think this is outrageous. I pay a lot of money to cox every month and I should be able to choose what station I should watch. This is nothing but corporate greed. Both companies are making profits. We should not bear the burdon of loosing any programming. At&T is looking pretty good right now. They drop WTNH, Cox will loose this customer fast.

It is rather disgusting that it has come to this. I also pay nearly $180/mo for cox services. Where I live, I can't get channel 8 with an antenna. Well, I can, if you want to watch it through a blizzard of snow. So, I effectively lose access to one of the major networks. Channel 8 is listed on the basic package, so this is a breach of contract between me and Cox. Cox , how are going to compensate me?

I've been thru this stuff in years-past. It was always resolved "at the last second" and I didn't lose sevice, but my COX Bill increased later sneakily. This is why I choose DirecTV over Everyone. You don't have a choice to switch to another "Cable-Provider" because they are all "Territorial". Maybe AT&T might be OK, but I made MY choice many years-ago. DirecTV. A couple-a snow-outs or sun-flares are worh it. (Ps. Not an employee of DirecTV).

PS.... "CASTLE" is the Greatest show (in my opinion) that ABC has ever provided! - Wes

When is Uverse going to be more widely available?

Good question, Susan. I'll look into that! I've been dying for it as well. I just have regular ATT at home and the internet hiccups all the time...

I have DSL and it hiccups so much that it would be written up in medical record books- were it human. So many people I know (not in this town) have it and love it.

That is to say, have UVerse and love it.
