What’s Fascial Stretch Therapy All About?

Fascial stretch therapy is a relatively new treatment for people with chronic pain and mobility issues.

Practitioner Marisa Forti, uses her expertise in kinesiology, massage therapy and fascial stretch therapy to treat her clients. In Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST), the therapist performs assisted stretching techniques with a client on a treatment table or floor. Comfortable straps help stabilize the limb or part of the body that is not being stretched in order to facilitate complete relaxation and to enhance the effectiveness of the stretches.

Fascial stretch therapists use traction to improve the joint's range of motion. While the muscles may be tight, one also needs to address the joint capsule - where those vexing tight little muscles attach. By adding traction before, during or after a stretch, you help to release the soft tissue adhesions, improve the range of motion of the joint (because the muscle is only as flexible as the joint that it is attached to) and increase the space between the joints for better shock absorption. Traction also releases endorphins into the blood stream, which in turn aids in reducing pain and increasing relaxation. It is responsible for structural integrity (important if you want to avoid injuries), for providing support and protection to the body and it acts as a shock absorber.

In addition to Fascial Stretch Therapy, Forti offers Massage Therapy, Personal Training, Functional Movement Screens and Endurance Coaching.

“I have received several treatments from Marisa and I have seen significant improvements in my body. My recovery time after workouts is much shorter and I have this ultimate feeling of freedom as soon as I come off the table. Marisa is a true healer!”

Forti launched Core Principles in 2008, with the vision of inspiring others to achieve optimal wellness. With over 10 years experience in the fitness industry, she offers a unique blend of modalities to meet the needs and personalized goals for every client. Strength, endurance, flexibility and massage are Marisa’s four pillars to personal fitness.

Forti began her career as a trainer and coach with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training before launching her own business. She helps clients to train and complete long distance runs and triathlons; and helps athletes recover from injury or improve flexibility.

In addition to several Sprint, Olympic and Half Iron Distance triathlons, Marisa completed the Chicago Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon, Goofy Challenge, Ironman Lake Placid and Seattle to Portland Bike Ride.

“It’s amazing to see what the human body can do when you train and challenge yourself on a daily basis. You learn something new every day and feel amazing in the process.”
