Y.P.O.W.R. Seeking Donations to Support Troops Overseas

The Waterbury Regional Chamber’s Y.P.O.W.R. organization – Young Professionals of Waterbury Region – is collecting food and personal care items to send to American military troops overseas. “We are collecting items for Care Packages that we will send to our troops around the world,” explained Y.P.O.W.R Director, Courtney Ligi, and Waterbury Regional Chamber Director of Special Events. “We are seeking specific items that men and women of the United States’ Armed Forces are requesting.” On Thursday, September 19 at 8:30 a.m., the Y.P.O.W.R. organization will hold a special Care Package Set-Up event at the Waterbury Regional Chamber offices at 83 Bank Street to assemble all the items received.

The mission of Y.P.O.W.R. is to energize young professionals aged 21 to 39 who are looking to grow their careers in the Waterbury area by engaging them in positive opportunities for professional development, educational, social, and community service.

“While we have gained financial support from numerous area businesses, we are seeking additional donations plus actual food and personal care item donations,” stated Ligi. Items being collected include supplies to make coffee including sugar packets, coffee/k-cups, flavored coffees, creamer; popcorn-kettle and regular; healthy snacks such as trail mix, granola bars, jerky, Fiber One products, 100 calorie packs; and soups of various types that do not require to be opened by can openers. “We are also collecting tuna packets, water flavoring packets, liquid laundry soaps, fabric softener sheets, body washes, toothpaste and toothbrushes, plus holiday gifts and decorations.”

Ligi stated, “Y.P.O.W.R. is proud to collect food and personal care items for members of the military. We hope our ambitions will remind others that the holidays are fast approaching and we believe it is important to ensure that members of our country’s armed forces are remembered during that special time each year in everyone’s lives. We are especially grateful to have the generous support of the Beacon Falls Lions Club that has offered us funds they have set aside to cover the costs of shipping and shipping materials.”

Anyone in the general public with family members or friends in the military who are stationed overseas, and would like to have a care package sent to those individuals, is invited to contact the Y.P.O.W.R. organization for inclusion in the Care Package creation and distribution. Requests must be made by Thursday, September 12 as the Care Package Set Up event will be held on Thursday, September 19th.
