Be Responsible on Facebook and Twitter

It's Memorial Day 2013. A day when we honor our fallen heroes of wars past and present. It's the unofficial start to Summer and a day when people traditionally open up their grills and swimming pools. As an Internet and Social Media Marketer I have a responsibility to my clients to stay abreast of what is going on in the Social Media World so I still check Facebook, Twitter and other sites throughout the day. This is when I notice a disturbing post or 2.

I have friends who are currently in or have served in the military. These soldiers get little pay and work in the worse conditions possible. When I see someone post that today is just another day, or today is a day when I get paid extra to be at work it really bothers me. Ultimately we have this day and every other day because of those soldiers that defend the right to have this day. This day should not be taken for granted and posts like that on social media sites are guaranteed to anger a few people and turn people off to your social media site.

So what's the moral you ask? All I am saying is be responsible about what you post. If you post something that can be deemed as somewhat controversial or offensive to some then you can expect backlash, or even worse, loss of your audience. As a business you cannot afford to lose an audience that you have spent so much time building.

With that being said I am going to fire up the grill and enjoy my family time. Happy Memorial Day, remember to honor those soldiers past and present.
