50 Wallingford Residents Participate in Race for Sandy Hook Families

Wallingford runners came out en masse to run in last weekend's 5K in Hartford to honor the victims of the Newtown tragedy.

On Saturday, 50 local runners from Wallingford joined a crowd of about 15,000 to run in the Sandy Hook Run for the Families, a 5K race through the streets of Harford that benefited the Sandy Hook School Support Fund.

The event raised more than $438,000, according to organizers.

Prior to the race, a moment of silence was held as a bell tolled 26 times to honor the 20 children and six educators killed in the attack on Dec. 14 in Newtown.
