Back Away From the Peeps...Or Take a Long Walk Afterwards

The Meriden Health Department tells you how much you need to walk to burn off those Easter treats.

It's Easter Sunday and no celebration would be complete without creme eggs and squishy sugar chicks. The folks at the Meriden Health Department have figured out about how many steps it will take you to burn off the calories for popular Easter treats. Check out their tabulations below when you indulge.

  • One marshmallow peep = 33 calories, 8 grams of sugar, 660 steps to burn off the calories.
  • One creme egg = 150 calories, 3,000 steps to burn off the calories.
  • 35 jelly beans = 140 calories, 37 grams of sugar (9 teaspoons), 2,800 steps, or 1.5 miles, to burn off the calories.
  • 1 small chocolate bunny (1 ounce) = 140 calories, 2,800 steps, or 1.5 miles, to burn off the calories.

The department has pedometers available to help you keep track of your steps. Call 203-630-4238 for details.
