Donovan: Meriden Parks to Get State Funding

The Speaker of the State House sent a news release reporting that the state Bond Commission is poised to approve grant money for imrpvements to Brookside and City Park in the Bunk Street area.

Speaker of the House Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden) announced the State Bond Commission is poised to approve funding for improvements to two Meriden parks at its upcoming meeting. 

The $200,000 grant will fund the installation of athletic courts and other amenities at Brookside Park and City Park in the Bunker Street area of the city.

“This is about revitalizing our neighborhood parks,” Rep. Donovan said. “When I lived on Camp St., my family spent hours playing in these parks. It is my hope that City Park and Brookside Park will once again become destinations for children to play and families to spend time together.”

The state funding will facilitate the installation of basketball courts, a junior basketball court and volleyball courts.  Picnic tables and charcoal grills would also be added to the parks.

“Ethel McQuiller and her neighbors, in conjunction with the city and Councilor Dante Bartolomeo, have led a grassroots charge to improve City and Brookside parks,” Rep. Donovan said. “The revival of neighborhood parks is important to the overall quality of life in our city.”

The State Bond Commission meets Wednesday, October 3rd at 4 p.m. in room 1-E of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
