Firefighters Rescue Climber in Hubbard Park

Man without climbing gear was stuck in the park's rock cliffs

The man who was trapped on Hanging Hills ridge in Hubbard Park Thursday afternoon was rescued by Meriden firefighters without major injury and brought to his Southington home by police.

John Kilbride, 61, told firefighters he got lost while hiking one of the trails, and was trying to scale part of the cliff to a higher trail when he got stuck, according to fire chief James Trainor.

Firefighters have extracted the climber from the rocks, and he is making his way down the mountain.

Meriden firefighters are working to extract a climber stuck in the rock cliffs above the Merimere Resevoir in Hubbard Park. 

The climber called emergency officials from his mobile phone early this afternoon. He is not wearing any harnesses, and is likely not injured, according to firefighters.
