General Assembly Votes to Cut $252.3 Million From Connecticut Budget

The move is intended to help erase a $365 million deficit in this year's state budget.

Lawmakers in Hartford met in a special session in Hartford late Wednesday night and voted to cut $252.3 million from the state budget. That figure, combined with $108 million in cuts Gov. Dannel P. Malloy already made earlier, are intended to erase a $365 million state budget shortfall by year's end.

The cuts included $90 million in reimbursements the state makes to Connecticut's hospitals for treating the uninsured and underinsured, the Connecticut Mirror reports.
