Meriden State Rep.: I Didn't Recognize Newtown Families

State Rep. Cathy Abercrombie, a Democrat who represents voters in the 83rd District, which includes Meriden and Berlin, apologized Monday over criticism that she brushed off the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

On Sunday night's episode of "60 Minutes," a Connecticut legislator was shown walking past some of the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy gathered at the State Capitol to urge lawmakers to act on gun control.

The legislator, we've learned, was State Rep. Cathy Abercrombie, a Democrat who represents voters in the 83rd District, which includes Meriden and Berlin.

'No thanks. All set,' Abercrombie could be overheard saying to the families.

You can watch the CBS video here.

On Monday, Abercrombie attempted to call each of the families to apologize, CT News Junkie reports.

“I would like to apologize to each of the Sandy Hook parents for rushing past them at the State Capitol last week,” Abercrombie said in a statement. “They have been through so much pain already and this surely didn’t help. I didn’t realize who they were at the time.”
