Naugatuck Democrat Ray Soucy Named as Donovan Probe Co-Conspirator

The Hartford Courant said Soucy is believed to be cooperating with the FBI in its investigation of campaign contributions to Donovan's congressional campaign.

A Democrat, , has been named as a key figure in the investigation of possible illegal contributions to House Speaker Christopher Donovan’s congressional campaign.

Contacted by Naugatuck Patch on Saturday, Soucy declined to comment on the Courant’s story.

Naugatuck Democratic Town Committee Chairman M. Leonard Caine III confirmed that Soucy is a bailiff and also a former member of the town committee, but he declined to comment further.

The Courant said an affidavit filed by federal prosecutors in U.S. District Court said a co-conspirator, who the newspaper’s sources said is Soucy, was cooperating with the federal investigation after a federal wiretap recorded him talking to an undercover agent about the illegal contributions.

The Courant also said that after Soucy was approached by the FBI in April, he went on a voluntary, personal leave from his state corrections job.
