New Life Church to Offer Reduced Price Gas This Saturday

This Saturday, the Meriden Church will subsidize gas purchases at Danby's on East Main for an hour.

New Life Church is offering an Easter gift to area residents Saturday.

The Meriden congregation announced Thursday that it would be offering reduced price gas from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, at Danby’s Gulf Express, 872 East Main St, Meriden.

Gas will be capped at $2.99 for those who come to fill up, and New Life will pay the difference between that price and the actual gas price.

"One of our staff members - our music director – thought up the idea a year ago as (a way) to to give back to the community," said Pastor Will Marotti. "We weren't in a place economically to do that then, so we put it on the backburner."

Those who come can fill up to 20 gallons for their car – and gas cans won't be filled.

Marotti expects to pump about 1,000 gallons over the hour.

Church volunteers will be directing traffic and washing windshields as a nod to "old fashioned service," Marotti said.

"There's supposed to be nice weather," he said. "We're looking forward to it."
