State Reopens Two Swimming Areas, Five Remain Closed

The DEEP closes swimming areas in Wallingford, Killingworth, Hebron, Watertown, and Griswold.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) reopened two swimming areas Thursday it had closed earlier in the week:

  • Mashamoquet Brook State Park, Pomfret
  • Rocky Neck State Park, Niantic (East Beach Closed, West Beach Open)

Five swimming areas closed this week remain closed as of Thursday because of elevated bacteria levels. They include:

  • Wharton Brook State Park, Wallingford
  • Chatfield Hollow State Park, Killingworth
  • Black Rock State Park, Watertown
  • Gay City State Park, Hebron
  • Hopeville Pond State Park, Griswold
