Things are tough for working families everywhere. In some places, it is becoming impossible to find work or to feed a family. Some workers have to make the wrenching decision to leave their country of origin and emigrate to the United States. You can learn about their struggles first hand. How?
By participating in this forum on Coming to America, which includes a common meal. We’ll learn through the game, “Coming to America,” a journey of options on how any of us would respond to the challenges faced by current immigrants to this country. We’ll hear from organizers, from undocumented young adults brought here as children, and from adults with no formal authorization.
Together we’ll learn, listen, play, and share a meal. Perhaps those of us who are not undocumented immigrants will share the story of our family’s history of coming to this country—unless we number among the indigenous peoples of this nation, whose history at the hands of many of our ancestors is rife with its own challenges.
United Action Connecticut is a faith-based grassroots organizing group. The Social Responsibility Committee is a longstanding ministry of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Meriden.
