Jump START-or-Kick UP Your Business in 2013:


It's a new year and we are here to help you!  Are you currently  in business and looking to be more informed on your "living business plan", changing your business structure, insurance, financing issues so important to the success of your business?  We are here to help. Maybe you want to START a business and need to find out A-Z how to do it and do it RIGHT!  We are here to help. The Greater Meriden Chamber, SCORE and My City Kitchen are teaming up to present this 3-session program that is designed not only for people looking to start a business, but also for people already in business that want to make 2013 their best year yet!

Each session will be approximately three hours and will include fabulous food / refreshments from 5:00 - 5:30 pm and the rest of the evening we'll be learning a lot of important information. There will be a combination of power point lectures by SCORE volunteers, hands-on exercises, and presentations by local business professionals.  We encourage you to register and attend all three sessions - attendees that complete  entire program will receive a certificate.


Cost: just $10 per session or $25 for all three sessions (recommended).  Anyone that is not a chamber member and joins the Greater Meriden Chamber will receive a $25 credit on their membership!

Session 1:  Start up and Growing Business Basics will begin with introductions: to one another, the program, presenters, the Greater Meriden Chamber and SCORE.  Basics:  Myths of entrepreneurship; Business ideas and profitable business opportunities; Developing and assessing your business concept; Business organization - when and how do I change that structure?, legal forms of business and insurance issues; Sources and uses of funds; The Business Plan: a "living" document to guide you in your start up AND growth!


Session 2:  Industry and Competitor Analysis includes:  Industry and Competitor Analysis; Product and Services; Industry Analysis; Pricing Strategy; Target Markets and Channels; Marketing Strategy and Message; Business Structure; The Marketing Plan

Session 3:  Financial Planning and Management includes information on: Importance of financial planning, taxes, and bookkeeping;  Building a financial model; Start-up and growth funds; Fixed and operating expenses; Unit priding and forecasting sales; Preparing, understanding, and managing financial statements; Balance sheet; Statement of cash flows; Income statement.
