We’re all doing it this week – looking at the to-do list and checking the calendar and wondering how we can squeeze everything in before the clock runs out and our big celebration arrives.
I certainly have to make a bigger dent in my to-do list – but one of my deadlines is tonight with Nikki’s Girl Scout meeting. I have to get all of the craft products that the girls will be working on organized and ready for them to tackle. That alone will help clean the dining room. But as I write almost none of that is done.
I thought I’d get to it yesterday, but I instead spent most of my day wrestling presents from the packaging and sorting out the presents from our celebration with my in laws.
Littlest Pet Shop sets took the record – I think it was 45 minutes each before they were free from the packaging and all the ties. The playroom needs to be cleaned and sorted (and some toys packed up and donated) but everything is out of its packaging at least.
My to-do list is longer this year as my family’s Christmas Day celebration is at my house so I have extra cleaning and a lot of cooking to do as well. Thankfully my boss is a wise woman and told me to take this week off – without it I’d be pulling all-nighters.
I keep reminding myself that despite the growing to-do list, it’s just fine to take a few minutes and play a few rounds of the Rock’em Sock’em Robots with JD or pretend to be a veterinarian with Nikki and her Littlest Pet Shop set.
My kids aren’t going to know or care that the wrapping wasn’t finished until Christmas Eve but I’m pretty sure they’ll remember the popcorn and the movies that we curl up on the sofa and watch together.
But right now I need to make a run to the North Pole to check on the progress the elves are making on the puppet theater JD requested. The finish on that one seems to be running behind and may be cutting it awful close for Christmas Eve delivery.
