Meriden Fire Displaces 11 People

The American Red Cross is helping 13 people – eight adults and five children in four families – after fires yesterday in Meriden and Norwich.

In Meriden, the Red Cross is helping 11 people – six adults and five children in three families – with emergency housing needs after a fire Sunday on West Main Street. Two other families affected by the fire were able to make alternative housing arrangements. Red Cross team members John Glendon, Laurie Murphy and Sue Parker responded to assist the families.

In Norwich, the Red Cross is helping a family of two adults with emergency food and clothing needs after a fire late Sunday on Baltic Street. Red Cross team members Dave Beatty, Lynn Beatty, Sue Bolen and Fred Bolen responded to assist the family.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a family might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire. The displaced children received stuffed animal toys.
