Meriden Homicide Suspect Appears in Court; Held on $3M Bond

Jonathan Gibbs is accused of murder after police said he shot and killed a New Britain teenager on Sunday.

The Meriden man accused of shooting and killing an 18-year-old New Britain resident over the weekend appeared in court Tuesday for arraignment on a single count of murder.

Court officials kept 26-year-old Jonathan Gibbs' bond at $3 million following his apperance in New Britain Superior Court on Tuesday, according to WFSB

Gibbs was arrested Monday in connection with the death of Isaac Smith, who police said was shot and killed with a handgun at point blank range just before midnight on Sunday on Kelsey Street in New Britain.

WFSB reported that Smith played in the football program at New Britain High School and that he was expected to graduate this week.

Police have not given any further details on Gibbs' connection to the shooting. The New Britain Herald reported that court officials sealed Gibbs' arrest warrant from public view.

New Britain Police Chief James Wardwell told the Herald that investigators do not believe the shooting was random.
