Clerk Gave Chase in Tuesday's Convenience Store Robbery

Meriden Police continue search for the suspect in the robbery of the Family Market on Center Street.

Meriden Police continue to search for the man they say robbed a convenience store clerk at knifepoint Tuesday afternoon.

Officers swarmed the area from Center and State Streets to the Mills Memorial Apartment Complex Tuesday afternoon, calling in a canine unit, to track a man who robbed the Family Market at 448 Center Street.

According to police spokesman Sgt. Darrin McKay, a man walked into Family Market at about 3:23 p.m. Tuesday, held the store's clerk at knifepoint, and demanded money. The clerk reportedly gave him an undetermined amount of money and the man ran away with the cash and loose packs of cigarettes.

Once the suspect fled, the clerk chased him. According to Police, a woman who saw the chase followed the clerk in a car. The clerk got into the car with her and followed the suspect to the Mills. Police then searched the complex, but were unable to find the man.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male who was wearing a black bomber jacket with a white collar, a grey hooded sweatshirt, hood up with a hat underneath, dark jeans and white sneakers. Detectives continue to investigate, police said Wednesday.
