Meriden Man Charged in String of Gas Station Robberies

Police said Angel Delgado, who is already facing various charges for a string of robberies in Southington, Glastonbury and Bristol, is now facing additional counts for his role in two separate incidents in Meriden.

A former Newington resident arrested by Southington police last year following an armed robbery at a West Street business is now facing numerous charges after police said evidence tied him to other robberies across the state including two last November in Meriden.

Officers served a warrant on 38-year-old Angel Delgado Tuesday, issuing charges that include first-degree robbery, fourth-degree larceny and fifth-degree larceny.

Delgado, who Meriden police said last resided at 2090 N. Broad St. in Meriden, is currently being held in lieu of more than $1.16 million in court-set bonds, according to the Connecticut Department of Correction. He is due back in Meriden Superior Court in the case in August.

“In partnership with the Bristol and Southington police departments, our detectives were able to develop information that tied him to two separate incidents here in Meriden,” Lt. Sal Nesci said Wednesday. The cases both stem from incidents last November.”

According to police reports, Delgado entered the Irving Gas Station on Broad Street and the Gulf Station on East Main Street in separate incidents, showed a gun and demanded cash. He fled after receiving an undisclosed amount of money.

Legal trouble first began for Delgado in November when he was arrested following a series of incidents in Southington.

According to reports from the Southington Police Department, Delgado entered the Country Farm convenience store on West Street during the evening hours of Nov. 23 and showed a weapon before demanding cash.

He was able to leave the store with approximately $1,300 and proceeded to get into a car driven by a woman who had a protective order against him, according to the police report.

Detectives said the Southington Police Department received information during their subsequent investigation that Delgado may have been involved and was staying at the nearby Residence Inn on West Street. When officers went to the hotel, they found evidence including the weapon, a fake gun, and the stolen cash.

Since that time, the charges have mounted for a man that police said has been involved in numerous incidents across the state, including two in Southington, two in Bristol and another in Glastonbury. Court records showed a lengthy list of pending cases in other various cases as well.

Meriden police were unsure if he could face additional charges as police agencies across the region continue to investigate.
