Pedestrian Hit by Car on East Main Street

Police say the driver does not face any charges and that alcohol may have contributed to Friday's accident.

A man struck by a car along East Main Street on Friday afternoon is listed in good condition at a local hospital, according to Meriden Police.

Police were called to 72 East Main Street shortly after noon for a report of a pedestrian hit by a car. At the scene, police found 62-year-old Martin Rosado of Meriden lying unconscious in the west bound lane of traffic.

Police say Rosado was hit by a PT Cruiser driven by Albert Levesque, who remained at the scene and does not face any charges. Rosado was taken to Hartford Hospital with a head injury.

An investigation revealed that Rosado was attempting to cross the street when he fell backwards into the direction of Levesque's vehicle, which was traveling at a slow rate of speed, police say.

Responding officers could smell the odor of alcohol on Rosado's breath, according to Lt. Thomas Cossette, who said that the accident happened about 30 feet from a crosswalk.

As a result, Rosado was cited for improper use of a highway by a pedestrian.

The accident remains under investigation.
