Press release

On August 2nd, 2012 at approximately 1:40 A. M. the Meriden Police received several calls reporting a large fight somewhere in the area of 160 Sherman Avenue. The callers stated that there were upwards of 60 to 70 people gathered in the roadway. When Officers arrived, there were in fact a large number of people gathered. At that time two males were located and it was determined that both men had been shot multiple times.

Several people on scene reported to Police that a male was observed in the area and that they believed that he may have been involved in the incident. This male was seen entering a home on a nearby street. The Police responded to the house and the male was located. Due to the nature of the call, the Meriden S.W.A.T. team was deployed and a search of that home was conducted. The house was cleared by the S.W.A.T. team and at this time there is no information to connect this male or the home to the incident on Sherman Avenue.

Our Detective Division is actively investigating this incident and right now there is no information as to what started the altercation. There is also no motive for the shooting.

The victims are both adult males and each received multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were transported to nearby hospitals and at this time both men are listed in serious but stable condition. Their identities and ages are not being released at this time.
