Police: Meriden Girl Sexually Assaulted on Way to Bus Stop

A man reportedly pulled a 16-year-old girl into a vacant house on Springdale Ave. and sexually assaulted her.

Meriden Police are looking for the man they say grabbed a teen girl on her way to her bus stop Friday morning and sexually assaulted her inside of a vacant home.

Police say a 16-year-old girl was walking to her school bus stop on Springdale Ave. just before 7 a.m. when a man "tried to restrain her." The two struggled, police say, but the man overpowered her and forced her into a vacant house at 53 Springdale Ave. 

There he allgedly sexually assaulted the girl, pulling her sweater over her head so she could not see him and threatening to kill her if she made noise.

Following the assault, the suspect told the girl to count to 100 and then left the scene, police said.

Police describe the man as being between 30 and 40 years old, approximately 5'10" to 6' tall with a medium build, and no facial hair. The witness could not discern the man's race, but described him as olive-skinned. He was allegedly wearing a black winter hat, black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled.

Police are asking residents to be vigilant of their surroundings - particularly those in the area of Springdale Ave. If residents see something strange they should not hesitate to report it to police at 203-630-6234, they say.
