Police Looking for Suspects Who Robbed Meriden Convenience Store

Police said one of the suspects flashed a handgun during a Thursday evening robbery at a Sunshine Foodmart.

Meriden police are searching for two suspects who committed an armed robbery of a local convenience store Thursday evening.

Around 9:22 p.m. on Aug. 27 Meriden officers responded to the Sunshine Foodmart at 226 West Main St. after getting a report of a robbery involving two men, one of whom brandished a handgun, Sgt. Darrin McKay told Meriden Patch.

According to witnesses at the scene, the two men came into the Foodmart from the back door. They then ordered everyone in the store to get on the ground and then proceeded to demand money from the clark behind the counter, McKay said.

Witnesses told police that the younger of the two had a handgun at the time of the robbery, McKay said.

The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the Foodmart on foot through the back door. Officers had utilized a K-9 unit to try and track the suspects, however the police dog lost their scent several streets away, McKay said.

No one was injured in the robbery.

The suspects are described black males or having dark complexion. One appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s, skinny, 5'10", wearing a dark blue-style hoodie with long jeans and sneakers. He also wore some kind of winter hat with possible stripes, McKay said.

The other suspect appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s, 5'10", muscular build and his face covered by some kind of scarf. He was wearing a green jacket or sweater and was also wearing a pair of jeans and sneakers. He also had dark thick eyebrows, McKay said.

"No one got a good look at their faces because they were both covered," he said.

McKay said police are working to obtain surveillance video of the store.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Martin Eisner at 203-630-6260
