Meriden Police Search for Driver Who Allegedly Hit 17-year-old Pedestrian

A 17-year-old girl was sent to St. Mary's Hospital after a hit and run accident Friday night on Hanover Ave.

Meriden Police are asking for the public's help in finding the driver of a small two-door red vehicle suspected to be involved in a Friday night hit-and-run accident that sent a 17-year-old girl to the hospital.

Police responded to the intersection of Hanover Avenue and South Second Street after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck by a car there at about 11 p.m. Friday night, according to Police Spokesman Det. Lt. Mark Walerysiak.

There officers found a 17-year-old girl "lying near the sidewalk," Walerysiak said in a statement.

"She was complaining of severe head pain, but was able to convey some information to responding officers," he said, before she was taken to St. Mary's hospital. Her condition, police said Saturday morning, was unknown.

The girl reportedly told police she was crossing Hanover Street from south to north when she was hit by a car headed west on Hanover Street.

The car left the scene, police said. Two witnesses described it as a small, two-door red vehicle.

"It is believed to have damage to its front end. The windshield may also be damaged," Walerysiak said.

Police are asking those with information on the incident or the car to contact Meriden Police at 203-630-6215.
