Update: Resto Back in Meriden

The suspect in the shooting death of local store owner expected to be transported back to Meriden today.

Update 4:45 p.m.:

Here is an update from the Meriden Police Department:

Detectives from the Meriden Police Department took custody of Frankie Resto, 36, from Brooklyn Superior Court, Brooklyn, NY this morning. Resto had waived extradition earlier this week after turning himself in to NYPD last weekend.

Meriden Police Detectives had secured a warrant for Resto's arrest in connection with a robbery/homicide at EZ Mart convenience store, 271 East Main St. in Meriden. He was also being sought for an active Violation of Probation warrant from an earlier robbery case.  

Resto was transported to Meriden Police Headquarters where he was processed and held on a $2 million court-set bond.

Resto is charged with Felony Murder, Robbery 1st degree, Larceny 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. 

He is expected to be arraigned on July 13 at Meriden Superior Court. His next court date is July 26, 2012.

Frankie Resto will appear in a New York courtroom today and is expected to waive extradition which will allow him to be brought back to Connecticut, according to Meriden police.

Resto, 36, is then expected to be arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Friday to face charges in the shooting death of local store owner Ibrahim Ghazal. "If he's released, we'll pick him up today," said Police Captain Michael Zakrzewski

Resto is charged with felony murder, first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a firearm and second-degree larceny. He is being held on $2 million bond for the charges.

The June 27 homicide and robbery occured at the EZ Mart at 271 E. Main St. around 1:30 a.m.
