Southington Police, Schools Seeking Help in Finding Suspicious Van

Police are requesting help in investigating reports of a suspicious van seen around town over the weekend.

Police and school officials in nearby Southington are seeking assistance from the public in locating and identifying the owner of a "suspicious van" that has been seen throughout that town over the course of the last several days.

Southington Schools on Monday issued an automated phone message to parents and guardians warning them of a maroon van that "may be trying to lure children."

The first received a phone call regarding the van Friday night, indicated Sgt. Lowell DePalma, who said the maroon colored van was parked suspiciously int he Crest, Fairway and High Tower Road area earlier in the day.

"The operator of the van stopped several times, asking children about the amount of kids who lived in the area," DePalma said. "He was only there a short time on Friday afternoon."

Police said the van returned Saturday, however, and was carrying a woman passenger along with the man who was driving the day before.

Officers were able to talk with witnesses to get a description and photograph of the van. A registration check was done on the license plates, Ohio plates containing the number 1DW191, but no information was found.

Early Monday morning, police said the van was spotted for a short time outside the . No further information was available about the possible whereabouts of the van.
