Southington TD Bank Robbed Wednesday; Circumstances Similar to Meriden Robbery

Police said robber implied he had a weapon, but no one was injured.

Southington Police are investigating a robbery at along the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike early this afternoon in which a man with a hooded sweatshirt passed a note to teller stating he was robbing the bank and had a weapon. This comes less than 24 hours after a TD bank was robbed in similar circumstances. Police say they do not know whether the two crimes were related.

Around 12:45 p.m., police said the man entered the bank at 921 Meriden-Waterbury Road, Southington wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt. He approached the teller as if to make a transaction, police said, before sliding her the note. No weapon was ever shown.

The man is described as being in 30’s and standing approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a thin build. He left in a car, heading west on Meriden-Waterbury Road toward the entrance to Interstate 84, taking with him an undetermined amount of cash.

Further details including any surveillance pictures of the suspect are not available at this time. Detectives are on scene reviewing evidence including the surveillance footage.

“This is preliminary information and we will release more as it becomes available,” Southington Polcie Sgt. Lowell DePalma said in a press release. “No one was injured.”

It is unknown if the robbery could be related to one on . In that case, which occurred around 4:30, a man with a grey hooded sweatshirt entered the TD Bank along East Main Street and also left with an undetermined amount on cash.
