House Fire on Broad Sends two to Hospital

Friday morning fire started in the kitchen, fire officials say.

Seven adults managed to escape a house fire Friday morning in Meriden, fire officials say.

The fire broke out shorty after 8 a.m. at the two-family home at 700 Broad St., after someone in the home left cooking food unattended in the kitchen, according to Chief David Bowen.

Firefighters arrived on scene within a matter of minutes to extinguish the fire but not before the flames gutted the kitchen.

Two people living in the home were taken to to be treated for smoke inhalation. No firefighters were hurt.

Bowen said the Red Cross had been notified and will provide assistance to the family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
