Bartolomeo Visits Klingberg Family Centers to Tout New Child Mental Health Law

The New Britain-based center, which focuses on providing permanent, nurturing homes for children, will benefit from the Meriden Democrat's new legislation.

State Sen. Danté Bartolomeo (D-Meriden) joined Klingberg Family Centers President Dr. Steve Girelli and others Wednesday for a one-hour tour of the center, which focuses on providing permanent, nurturing homes for children.

Bartolomeo is Senate Chairwoman of the Children’s Committee and is the author of this year’s new law regarding mental, emotional and behavioral health care for children. In addition to foster care and adoption services, the Klingberg Family Centers also provides a range of educational programs aimed at building stronger families and offers therapeutic treatment for children and parents.

While there, Bartolomeo talked with a student at the Raymond Hill School at the Klingberg Family Center in New Britain about her vocational education class, focusing on woodworking and refinishing.

As Senate Chairman of the Children's Committee, and as the author of Connecticut's new child mental health law, Bartolomeo toured the Center and the school, which serves children and families who have experienced trauma through abuse or neglect or who are affected by mental health issues such as ADHD, depression, attachment disorder or other learning disabilities.
