City Prepares for Saturday Snowfall

A 24-hour city parking ban begins Friday night at midnight.

Meriden residents are likely to see their first big snowfall of 2012 Saturday, if forecasts of 4-7 inches of snow in our area come true.

The city's Public Works Department, which is in charge of plowing city streets, is tracking the storm to anticipate when its trucks will have to hit the road.

The latest forecast, according to the department's Director Bob Bass as of about 5 p.m. Friday, says that snow will start between 3 and 6 a.m. and end between 3 and 6 p.m. on Saturday.

In anticipation of plowing, Meriden has issued a 24-hour parking ban on city streets, starting from midnight Friday until midnight Saturday.

Bass also asked residents to drive with care and not to push or blow snow out into the streets.

City trucks, he said, plow roads in a priority system - main roads (East/West Main), collectors streets (Gravel St, Centennial Ave), and residential subdivisions, followed by cul-de-sacs, and asked for residents' patience as the crews work to clear their street.
