Going Away on Election Day?

Absentee ballots are now available for the November 8 municipal elections.

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill today announced that absentee ballots are now available for Connecticut voters who won’t be able to get to their polling places to cast a ballot in person in the upcoming municipal elections.

If you’re one of those people, you can get an absentee ballot by downloading an application from the Secretary of the State’s website www.sots.ct.gov or by contacting the local town clerk’s office. After you submit an application, you should receive your absentee ballot in a few days, provided you are a registered voter.

Absentee ballots must be signed and can be returned through the mail or in person to your town clerk’s office. In order to be counted for the general election, absentee ballots must be received by the town clerk no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8, 2011.

So if you can’t get to your voting place on Election Day, be sure to get an absentee ballot ahead of time. And if you haven’t registered to vote yet, you have until November 1.
