Governor Calls on Fellow-Democrat Chris Donovan to Explain Aide's Arrest

Dannel Malloy calls "despicable" the allegations that Donovan's campaign finance director hid illegal campaign donations.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy released the following statement on allegations that Robert Braddock hid illegal donations to the campaign of Democrat Christopher Donovan, who is running for the 5th Congressional District seat. Braddock, of Meriden, is the campaign's finance director and Wednesday.

“I want to commend the US Attorney’s Office and the FBI for their diligence in the investigation and the speed in which they’ve taken action.  Law enforcement is in many ways the first and last line of defense for our taxpayers, and when an announcement like this happens, we should all be grateful for their work.

“These allegations are despicable. While I am encouraged that the Speaker is cooperating with the investigation, his position requires that he give our residents a full explanation of what he knows.

“Allegations like this not only damage a campaign or a candidate, they also undermine citizen’s belief in their government’s ability to carry out its responsibilities.”

The Governor’s outrage is genuine. It’s similar to his reaction to the news that State employees were scamming the food stamp program. He is a TRUE Progressive – he understands that fraud, corruption, dishonest and unethical conduct by anyone in government or in either political party undermines the confidence that citizens must have in our government for it to function effectively. He won’t tolerate it. And neither should we.

the role of a "progressive" is to lie, cheat, and steal from people by offering them a service they don't want with a smile saying "take it, you'll enjoy it!" and then gouging them on the price of the good or service that they did not want. It's like those annoying door to door salesmen, except you are forced to buy. It's like going to a diner and they just double the bill and send you tons of stuff you didn't want and then they add split plate charges and gratuity. Then they charge you for disposing it unless you eat it all. Malloy is a good actor. Either that, or people are just getting dumber and dumber each passing election cycle. I think it is both. If Malloy was progressive he would deport himself to the people's republic of California. That state is long gone and too far to be recovered. Perhaps he can take Donovan and all the crooked politicians Democrat AND Republican with him.

Andrew If you have any evidence of illegal activity please share it so we can arrest all those crooks and take back our government. Progressive or conservative elected officials are employees of “We the People” and should only work to benefit the people of this Country. With a billion dollar election funded by huge Corporate Multi National Special interest groups who give unlimited untraceable funds, Our ability to sort truth from lies, and make intelligent election choices will be compromised. We need to restore Campaign finance controls and accountability. The people buying the election need to be identified and the politicians taking illegal contributions need to be arrested. I believe Donovan is a good man who failed to control his staff. This failure may cost him his job. This is the price he may need to pay to restore our faith in Government. Hitler came into power because good people watched their government hijacked and did nothing about it.

What is the point of giving obscured campaign contributions to influence business before the General Assembly if the member has no knowledge of the transactions? Donovan is not a good man Ron, spare us the spin.
Andrew Ziemba June 01, 2012 at 01:35 PM
Well let's start with everyone who voted for the NDAA, that's easy. Treason is punishable by hanging. Why have they not all been tried with treason? Oh right, they own the courts too. 99% of politicians have failed to keep their oath to the constitution and unfortunately, that is treasonous.
Ron White June 01, 2012 at 02:43 PM
No spin intended Unlike you and Andrew I still believe in the FBI and Court system. I'll withold judgement untill the facts are in.
Saul Freedman June 01, 2012 at 04:09 PM
I wasn't aware the FBI and the court system passed judgment on whether someone is "good" or not.
Ron White June 01, 2012 at 04:59 PM
Either do you! Facts still rule If the evidence shows laws were broken then he must be brought to trial. If this is a case of selective blindness then he should leave public office. Being " a good man" dosen't really matter. I'll wait for the facts.
Saul Freedman June 01, 2012 at 05:49 PM
Then why did you say it to begin with?
Ron White June 01, 2012 at 07:21 PM
Because I like him.
