Pain at the Pumps: Connecticut Ranks Fourth in Gas Taxes

Connecticut drivers are forking over 45 cents per gallon in taxes when filling up.

Connecticut drivers are paying 45 cents per gallon in taxes at the gas pumps, the fourth highest gas tax rate in the U.S., according to data from The Tax Foundation.

The Nutmeg State has hovered in the top five nationwide since 2009, the Tax Foundation data shows.

New York took the No. 1 slot for 2013, with residents paying a whopping 50.6 cents per gallon when filling up.

Data Source: The American Petroleum Institute and The Tax Foundation. API determined the state tax rates using excise taxes, environmental fees, storage tank taxes, sales taxes, etc., according to The Tax Foundation.
