Monday's Labor Day holiday will move trash and recycling (for those scheduled to have recycling) pickup one day forward for residents, according to the city's Department of Public Works.
For residents who normally have trash pickup on Monday, that will be moved to Tuesday, Tuesday trash pickup will be moved to Wednesday, and so on.
Despite the holiday weekend, the City's Transfer Station will be open with extended hours on Saturday. From 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., residents will be able to bring in brush. The station, located across from the Meriden Markham Airport on Evansville Ave., is normally open every first and third Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, in addition to normal weekday hours.
The city extended hours so residents could bring in the debris they cleaned up from their yards following Hurricane Irene. The station will only take brush no longer 4 feet and no wider than 6 inches. Leaves in paper bags can remain at the station, but those in plastic bags have to be dumped out and the bags removed.
