Senate Minority Leader Wants Chris Donovan Out as Speaker

Republican John McKinney says Donovan, a Democrat, should step down as speaker of the House.

 

State Senate Minority Leader John McKinney has called on House Speaker Chris Donovan, D-Meriden, to step down as speaker and to have no part in the legislature's upcoming special legislative session, the Connecticut Post is reporting.

McKinney's comments come in the wake of of a Robert Braddock, the finance director for Donovan's congressional campaign. Donovan was recently endorsed by Democrats to seek the 5th Congressional District seat.

His campaign has come under following charges, by federal authorities, that Braddock hid questionable campaign contributions to Donovan. Donovan has not directly addressed the accusations, but last night he fired not only Braddock but his campaign's chief of staff, according to the Hartford Courant.

Meanwhile, has called on Donovan, a fellow Democrat, to explain publicly what happened.
