Suzio will be the "Senator on Your Sidewalk" Monday at Stop and Shop

Meriden's freshman state senator will stand outside the Stop and Shop on the west side today from 4-6 p.m. to talk with constituents.

State Sen. Len Suzio (R-Meriden) will stand outside the Stop and Shop grocery store on the city's west side from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to talk with constituents during his first "Senator on Your Sidewalk" event.

The freshman state senator said he hopes to discuss the concerns of local residents and address questions about the last legislative session and his recent call for . 

"Massive tax hikes just went into effect - tax hikes which I staunchly opposed," Suzio said in a statement. "Now, many area residents have questions about how those tax hikes will impact their lives.

The event comes on the day the state has enacted a tax increase for single filers making more than $50,000 per year and couples making more than $100,000 and filing jointly.

"Beginning in August, for example, more money will be taken out of your paychecks due to the state income tax hike," Suzio said in a statement. "I am fighting for you up at the State Capitol and I look forward to discussing these and any other issues with you on Monday afternoon. I urge people to stop by."

The state senator plans to hold similar "Senator on Your Sidewalk" events throughout the 13th district, which includes Meriden, Middlefield, and parts of Cheshire, Middletown and Rockfall.
