Suzio Reaches out to School Board

Senator Suzio encourages Meriden school board to provide input into state legislative education reforms.

State Senator Len Suzio returned to his old stomping ground at the Meriden Board of Education Tuesday night to ask school board members for their input into state legislative education reform.

"It really does feel like a homecoming to be back here," Suzio told members of the school board – on which he served for 14 years.

In a letter to the board, Suzio stated that Governor Malloy has promised to make education reform the dominant theme of the upcoming legislative session, slated to begin February 8.

"As your state senator, I want to give you the opportunity to proactively have input into the legislative process by communicating to me and other members of the legislative delegation education reforms that you would advocate," Suzio said.

While budget issues will continue to be a challenge, Suzio conceded, he wants to help prevent local school boards from having to deal with "arbitrary policies dictated from on high."

As a member of both the Education and Appropriation committees in the state senate, Suzio is well placed to promote education reforms requested by his hometown.

In closing, he told the board, "I want to make sure you have a voice in Hartford."
