Officials met for a 3 p.m. meeting at the city's Emergency Operations Center at Meriden's Police Station to share reports on the state of the city. Here are a few highlights.

  • CL&P and the city are working on five priority spots in Meriden right now: Westfield Road from Giuffrida to Suzio, 25 Wilcox, Corner of Lincoln & Foster, 36 Bruce, Stevenson @ Main St., according to Mark Zebora of the Parks Dept. Work at these spots doesn't mean that power will be restored at these locations – these are the remaining places city workers need CL&P to remove downed lines and cut power so the city can remove trees and debris so that CL&P can in turn come back to these areas - along with the rest of the city - to restore power.
  • Other Meriden spots Zebora said CLP and the city will work to address tonight are: 1 Gwen, 116 Eaton, 55 Eaton, 172 Eaton, 86 Fiesta, 41 Graveline, Barberry Ln. and West Main St., 47 Sperry Ln., 69 Meridian, Grove and Terrace Garden and Botsford.
  • Meriden Police will have 6 additional officers on the 3 p.m. - 11 p.m. and 11 p.m. - 7 a.m. shifts tonight, Chief Jeffry Cossette said.
  • CL&P brass is expected in the city at 6 p.m. to update officials.
  • Nurses will be staffing overnight shelters, according to Acting Health Director Lisa Pippa. Pippa said she wants them there if any medical needs arise.
  • Health Department Operations will be moved to the Meriden Senior Center, Pippa said.
  • MidState Hospital is currently at 80 percent power, according to MidState's Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Carol Ryanaski. The hospital has treated 4 people for carbon monoxide poisoning since the storm. Though it's at 80 percent power right now, the hospital is offering full services, Ryanaski said.

The City of Meriden is still 82 percent without power Tuesday morning, and city officials continue to work on opening shelters and clearing storm debris throughout town. Officials met for a 9 a.m. meeting at the city's Emergency Operations Center at Meriden's Police Station to share reports on the state of the city. Here are a few highlights:

  • Parts of the city are back online from Monday night, as the outage levels lessened from 88 to 82 percent. CL&P has given no estimated time of further restoration for Meriden.
  • The city's overnight shelters at Lincoln, Edison, and the Senior Center will open at noon for residents who need warming centers and will remain open until 8 a.m. Wednesday. Last night 60 people stayed at Lincoln Middle School, 50 at Edison Middle School, and 25 at the Senior Center, doubling the numbers of the previous night. Officials expect that number to jump as well tonight, as most residents will be without heat for a fourth night.
  • There were two outage related crimes overnight, according to Meriden Police Chief Jeffry Cossette. Police found one smashed window at an auto parts store at 711 East Main St.**, and at Arthur's Package Store at 201 S. Broad Street. This is down from five smash-and-grabs the previous night.
  • All streets, barring Old Colony Road, are cleared enough to be passable, according to Parks Director Mark Zebora. ‎"There is no reason – everything is open, everything is passable – (CL&P) cannot restore power to some areas," Parks Dept. Director Mark Zebora said. Old Colony Road, which has three broken uitility poles, is still closed.
  • Eighteen people were sent to area hospitals for carbon monoxide poisoning overnight in Meriden in .
  • The Library and Health Department are closed again today due to power outages. City Hall is open.
