Volunteers Invited to Help Clear Linear Trail Saturday

Have a chainsaw and know how to use it? Storm Alfred knocked down trees and branches throughout the Linear Trail this October, and volunteers are looking for a little help in cleaning up the path so it can reopen. 

On Saturday, starting at 8:30 a.m., anyone interested in helping clear can join city employees and volunteer firefighters, led by Eddie Siebert, the Mayor's constituent services director, at the Red Bridge on Oregon Road in South Meriden to help cut, clean and chop the brush away. 

Professional tree trimmers will be on hand to guide volunteers, Siebert said.

Don't have a chainsaw but still want to help? Bring a rake, a broom, loppers, your pickup truck or just yourself, Siebert said. There are a number of different jobs volunteers can do to help.

The effort is in response to officials warning that because of the extent of damage, the path might stay blocked until Spring.
