What's Open/Closed on Turkey Day in Meriden

Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, and Patch talks turkey about what's open and what's closed.

Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, a state and federal holiday, which means most government offices and businesses will be closed. Below is a non-exhaustive, but we hope helpful, list of some of the big Thursday closures in Meriden, and some of the businesses that will be open on Turkey Day.

Community Resources

  • City Hall is closed Thursday, along with city departments like the Public Library, and the Health Department, Senior Center, but all will reopen on Friday.
  • The Transfer Station is not open on Thursday, but it will open specially on Friday just for brush and leaves.
  • The Meriden YMCA is closed Thanksgiving Day, but will be hosting a Community Thanksgiving Dinner from noon - 2 p.m. for families in need. It will also sponsor an 8 a.m. run/walk to Castle Craig from Hubbard Park on Thursday. On Friday, it will resume regular hours.

Groceries

  • The city's two Stop and Shop grocery stores will both be open Thursday. The East side store on Broad Street will be from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., while the West Side Store will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the gas station will be open from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. 
  • The Big Y is closed on Thursday, but resumes normal hours on Friday.
  • Target is closed on Thursday, but will open at midnight Thursday for Black Friday. 

Pharmacies/Sundries

  • All three CVS in-store pharmacies in the city are open from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. The CVS at 679 East Main St. is open from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday, while the nearby store at 839 East Main St. is open 24 hours. The West side CVS at 540 West Main St. is open from 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.
  • Both Walgreens stores at 425 West Main St and 825 E Main St are open from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday but the pharmacy is closed.

Medical

  • If your doctor's office is closed and your needs aren't urgent enough for the ER, MediQuick will be open from 8 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. at 61 Pomeroy Ave. in Meriden on Thursday.

Coffee! Coffee coffee coffee!

  • Dunkin' Donuts stores throughout the city are open with normal hours Thursday.  
  • Starbucks on South Broad Street will be open from 6 a.m. (drive through is open at 5:30 a.m.) to 4:30 p.m.
  • Cafe Dolce will be closed Thursday, but will reopen Friday. 

Alcohol

  • Package stores are all closed by state law on Thursday.

Retail

  • Westfield Shopping Center is closed Thursday, but opens at the stroke of midnight for Black Friday.

Open Restaurants

  • Boston Market - 11 am - 7 pm, 755 East Main St., Meriden, 203-634-7677. Thanksgiving is the East Main Street store's busiest day, according to a clerk, but if you're looking to pick up holiday fare on the fly it's a good idea to call ahead to make sure supplies haven't run out.
  • AJ's Oasis Cafe - 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. 142 Hanover St, Meriden, 203-634-4912. This cafe will feature both its regular menu and a full course Thanksgiving meal for patrons, according to staff who say the holiday brings a packed house at AJ's. 
  • Quality Time -8:30 am - 2 pm, 999 Broad St., Meriden, 203-238-1915. The bar/restaurant is open for football revelers on their way to Meriden's cross-town match at Falcon Field. They'll be serving breakfast sandwiches, sausage and peppers and more during the day. 
  • McDonalds - 24-hours, 783 East Main St., Meriden, 203-237-3919.
  • Best Choice Pizza - 12 pm - 12 am, 164 Scott St., Meriden, 203-237-2000.
